PawXchange is a neighbor-to-neighbor pet care app for iPhone and Android. Members care for each other's pets — dog walks, drop-in visits, daycare, house sitting and overnight boarding — and pay with a virtual currency called Treats instead of cash.

You earn Treats when you care for another member's pet, and you spend them when your own pet needs care. Your first Treats come from Paw Quests, small tasks in the app. Treats have no cash value, can't be converted to money, and expire if your membership isn't renewed.

The app is free to download. Membership is $129/year, with no fee on each sit — care is exchanged with Treats and no cash passes between members.

Rover is a paid marketplace: you pay a sitter for each booking and Rover adds service fees. PawXchange is a community exchange — neighbors help each other and earn Treats in return. See our comparison of Rover alternatives.

No. Anyone who loves animals can offer help and earn Treats, even without a pet of their own.

An optional add-on at $49/year that gives you 30 extra Treats each month — useful if you receive more care than you can give. These monthly Treats expire at the end of each month and don't roll over.

No. Treats are earned by caring for pets (or through Paw Quests and the Premium Pack). They can't be bought per sit, transferred out or exchanged for money.

Overnight care such as boarding is counted in Treats per night.

Several layers work together:

• ID verification through Stripe Identity, shown as a ✓ badge on verified profiles
• Reviews between members
• Care details on each pet's profile, shared with the sitter
• Check-in photos with an AI wellbeing check (powered by Claude, by Anthropic)
• Live GPS tracking during dog walks

Verifying your ID is optional but recommended: it adds a ✓ badge to your profile so other members can see at a glance that you're verified.

Dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, guinea pigs, ferrets, fish, turtles, lizards and non-venomous snakes (under about 8 ft). Horses, donkeys, ponies and livestock are accepted for drop-in visits at the owner's property only — no riding, boarding or medication. Venomous and wild animals are not accepted.

PawXchange is live on the App Store and Google Play in the United States. Our community is growing first in Austin, Texas; Canada, Mexico and Europe are planned later.
